Reaching 10,000 digital loans: A milestone in expanding access to healthcare finance

We've reached a major milestone: 10,000 digital loans disbursed to healthcare entrepreneurs in Kenya. We have now expanded our digital loan offering to Tanzania in 2025.

  • Feb 17, 2026

When we launched our digital loan product in 2016, we disbursed just three loans in the first year. What began as a pilot has grown into a scalable financing solution transforming how healthcare providers access capital. In 2025 alone, we disbursed more than 1,700 digital loans.

Driving impact for healthcare providers and patients

Behind these numbers lies meaningful impact:

  • More than 900 healthcare providers have accessed digital finance to grow their businesses
  • Nearly one-third of loans have been disbursed to women entrepreneurs, many of whom report that digital lending helps remove traditional barriers they face when seeking finance
  • Each borrower serves an average of 750 patients per month
  • Over 50% of patients come from low-income communities

By strengthening small and medium-sized healthcare providers, digital loans contribute to improved business resilience, expanded services, and better access to quality healthcare for underserved populations.

What healthcare entrepreneurs are saying

For providers on the ground, digital loans have meant practical improvements:

“We’ve been partnering with MCF since 2019, and it has completely changed how we run our business. Access to funding is straightforward, with no heavy documentation, and their team arranges so much for us. Because of this support, we’ve taken over our fifth facility and continue to grow. If it weren’t for MCF, we wouldn’t know where to turn. Their staff is amazing, always available, and ready to guide you. I recommend working with MCF any day, anytime,” said Lameck O. Mokua of Westy Chemist.

“We started working with MCF in 2017 and have taken 34 loans so far, moving towards 40. We’ve used the financing to stock the facility, repaint the clinic, and replace old equipment. We hope to keep collaborating with MCF as we expand. We’ve also encouraged other health practitioners who don’t have access to cash advances to register with MCF so they can continue developing their services as well,” explained Dr. Ambrose Ngere of Ogwedhi Health Center.

Expanding in Tanzania

All 10,000 loans have been disbursed in Kenya, where our digital lending platform has become a trusted tool for healthcare entrepreneurs. Building on this momentum, we expanded our digital loan offering to Tanzania in 2025, marking an important next step in scaling access to finance for healthcare providers in the region.
