Following the success of our digital loan product in Kenya, Medical Credit Fund has launched Afya Mkopo in Tanzania, a digital lending solution designed specifically for health small and medium enterprises (SMEs). We've partnered with Vodacom to make financing more accessible for healthcare providers across the country.
Afya Mkopo addresses the unique financial challenges that health SMEs face. There’s no collateral required, the application process is straightforward, and repayments work through M-Pesa Lipa Namba. We built it to be simple and convenient for the health businesses that are essential to Tanzania’s healthcare system.
In December 2025, we held a launch event in Dar es Salaam to celebrate a significant milestone: over 100 loans disbursed in the first year, reaching more than 75 health businesses. These loans have helped providers expand their services, improve their facilities, and deliver better care to their communities.
This year, we’re focused on reaching even more healthcare providers across Tanzania. By supporting the growth and sustainability of health SMEs, Afya Mkopo aims to make affordable, quality healthcare accessible to more people across Tanzania.
