What this means on the ground
NHL was founded in 2014 with a clear purpose: improve access to quality medical equipment across East Africa. Today, the company is the exclusive distributor of the Hemex Gazelle — a diagnostic device enabling early detection of sickle cell disease, a condition affecting thousands of children born in Uganda every year.
With an MCF loan, NHL secured its own business premises and distributed 100 Gazelle devices to public and private health facilities across the region, alongside other essential medical equipment.
For Evas Turigye, NHL’s Director, the numbers tell only part of the story: “MCF support was timely when we needed to scale our operations. They supported us in acquiring our own business premises and this has changed everything for us, for our business, and for the children who can now be diagnosed early.”
A decade of lending and counting
This milestone reflects ten years of lending to health SMEs across sub-Saharan Africa. Each one of those loans is a business that got the capital it needed to grow and serve more patients. We’re committed to doing more of it.
